No Critic I Poem by Laurence Overmire

No Critic I

Don't ask me to be a
Critic
We all have our roles in this
World
But that is not mine

If it is criticism
You seek
There are plenty to
Oblige

They cut down the
Sapling
Before it has a chance
To reach the margins of the sky

I look to the growers
Who bring life from the
Earth
And I will carry the water

Syllable by scintillating syllable

To the dry root that thirsts
The sentence that pushes through
The soil seeking its vindication
In the branch that touches the

Light.
