No Earthly Idea Poem by Spencer Ziegler

No Earthly Idea

If I were to see him framed in the arched doorway,
I'd know so precisely where I am

If I were to hear his voice showering me with evocative tales of his past,
I'd know so clearly where I'm from

If I were to feel his strong, sympathetic embrace,
I'd know so emphatically where I want to be

But as I once again stare down at this same hospital bed,
I have no earthly idea where he is.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem in memory of my grandfather, who battled with Parkinson's Disease for as long as I knew him.
