No, Just No Poem by BASAB CHAUDHURI

No, Just No

No, just No -
I have no desire to write a poem, not even prose
Everything turns out like life, like an unread chapter
I don't know what the character will do on page twenty
Then why ask about the last page? Why?
This morning cuppa is special because it is morning
It has a flavour typical of morning
I stand, have a sip, watch or do nothing.
Yes, just Yes -
Nothing.
Just then - like a bolt from the blue, it came upon -
Did Sisyphus become Walter Mitty ever?
Do not ask what Sisyphus will do this afternoon
Or where will Walter Mitty escape?
Escape into? Or escape from?
If Walter Mitty had known, he would never have tried.
That's it or that's it isn't.
Lovely flowers, lovelier piece of bread held by the crow
Tightly held, put under the legs where the weight is maximum
Then, little by little, the crow eats
It doesn't escape life
A piece of bread, a cup of tea.
Did Sisyphus feel the thirst for life ever?
Did Walter Mitty live his life ever?
Who knows!
