No Misogyny For Anon Poem by Ananta Madhavan

No Misogyny For Anon

Some call thee ‘Frailty',
Misquoting Shakespeare,
Whose ‘Hamlet, Prince of Denmark', says,
'Frailty, thy name is Woman.'

Some cite the Bard of Avon for
The canard that ‘Vanity' was the trait
The poet chose for Woman.
Why not say, it was ‘Anon',
The prolific author, ‘Anonymous'
Androgynous, but mostly ‘Woman',
According to Virginia Woolf.

Man loves Woman in all ages and climes,
But finds pretexts to blame her off and on.
I have found from four decades of life,
That Frailty and Vanity are pseudonyms
For a person whose true name is
‘Everybody'. Or, if you want to be exact,
Say ‘Almost Everyone but me',
And thus confirm that you are ‘frail' and ‘vain'.
Truth is various and holds for you no terror:
Preen on from error to silly error.
