No Need To Cry Poem by Paul Reed

No Need To Cry

With trembling hands I hold the future,
With doubtful mind I contemplate -
'How long is it since I felt normal? '
Just the wind rattling at the gate;

Could this be the same person
Who once held the world on high?
Who took each day at full value
Who felt no need to cry;

Life has abraded and eroded,
Strained nerve and tarnished hope,
Is there a way back up the mountain
Or just this one path down the slope?

To keep moving is my mantra
Keep going and never pause
But where is it I am going to
And under which sacred cause?

Once, there was no need to ponder
Issues so fundamental
If anything displeasing arrived
It was purely coincidental;

Happiness is silent and invisible
Not felt or ever tasted
Until the bow wave from it's passing
Tells you the time was wasted.
