No One Is Innocent Poem by J.D. Crockett

No One Is Innocent

Got a phone call today
Left me stunned in disbelief
seems a good friend of mine
decided to take her own life

At the funeral home
I asked what she had meant
when I saw the guilt in our eyes
I realized that no one is innocent

what could one word do?
to change the course of a whole day
there was something we could have done
always something good to say

doing nothing is just as bad
as doing the deed your self
a kind word left unsaid
could have put demons back on a shelf

and so we stood with bloodstained hands
in reverent lines around her grave
and watched her coffin lowered in
a wasted life we failed to save

with special thanks to T.F. for the last line
