No One To Mourn Poem by John Yaws

No One To Mourn

Rating: 5.0

I meditate upon the paths I've chosen-
And marvel at how quickly time has flown.
The people who once cared, and I once cared for-
Are gone and I must make my way alone.

What I once thought was love, was only passion-
Looking back, how tawdry it appears-
A lot of broken vows and empty promises-
A lot of gentle eyes were filled with tears.

I have to ask what's out there waiting for me?
Could it be that there's a chance for real romance?
Or must I pay the Devil for his fiddle?
And follow steps they call thesucker's dance?

A lot more wasted miles lie out before me-
A lot of one-horse towns I haven't seen.
A lot more peering at some dim horizon
Seeking grass a greener shade of green.

I spent a lot of time in Arizona,
I watched the setting sun from Waikiki-
I gazed upon the awe-inspiring Rockies-
I guess those are the things that made me, Me.

The only thing that's left for me to hope for-
Is the coming time I'll saddle up and ride-
In search of what I hope are greener pastures.
And leave no one to mourn the fact I died.

I meditate upon the paths I've chosen- And marvel at how quickly time has flown. The people who once cared, and I once cared for- Are gone and I must make my way alone. Alone i decide to move always with great determination. tony
