Nocturnal Lament Poem by Georg Trakl

Nocturnal Lament

Rating: 2.7

The night has risen over the rumpled forehead

With beautiful stars

By the hill, where you lay petrified by pain,

A wild animal in the garden rankled your heart.

A fiery angel,

You lie with broken breast on stony field,

Or in the forest a nocturnal bird's

Unending lament

Always repeating in thorny night branches.
