North Peaks Poem by Dwitun Basumatary

North Peaks

Came I to this world to see the sun-
Somewhere on the formidable cliffs
So long way down. Here high up the ground
seems nearer the home of Angels.

Here Clouds roll by
Besides you and I.
Children sing rare,
Untitled songs;
In winter sun,
In summer's moon.

Mid-day nap by a groove-
Sees dragons sweeping down
to drink down at the brook.
Their loud gigantic screams
Shivering the cool, dark,
grassy, tranquil, shaded
forests of Rono Hills.

And as the west Indians gossip-
At the speed of light to its nest:
Werewolves ran past its rocky creeks
High somewhere there on clouded peaks.

In those housed mountain sides
On floating peaks storms beat
In their rage Lands slide down.
And anxious mothers
retelling their children,
last thirteen precautions.

But dwells here too the joys of life;
After the rain comes beach visions-
In the last few storms of the year
the city grows fair; the fields bloom.
And the women come and go
Talking of Michael Angelo.

In winter people with cold brows
Stroll beside some high mountain streams.
Zoom_ goes he on his motorbike;
Drip-drop trickles her umbrella.
Someday these forests turns to jade
Of sparkling gold the rivers too.
Untill then this_ This is our home
High in sky, below the thunders.
