Not This Time Poem by Forever Anonymous

Not This Time

For when you walk past,
my eyes try not to look,
for if I did,
I don't know how I would.
I have never seen
anyone like you before.
My heart beats obstreperously,
I know you could hear it.
As you approached me,
I knew you didn't feel
the way I felt,
about you.
He likes me,
or shan't he?
What is there to like?
Myself: unpicturesque,
grotesque, monstrous.
Not one light of heaven
did ever give me chance.
You must detest me,
but that would make us opposites.
For when you walk past,
my eyes try not to look,
for if I did,
I don't know how I would.
