Nothing To Do With You Poem by Tessa Eichhorst

Nothing To Do With You

I don't see why you keep talking, keep your
mouth moving like a gate swinging in
the wind. I don't see why I even matter
anymore; that early morning meeting was
soon done, it was gone with the wind. I
don't see why they all stare and talk as
if I don't know what is going on. Last
time I checked, I was there when it
happened; it wasn't you and my sillouette.

Why must you feel this is an ongoing thing?
I knew it was over as soon as we were
done; I guess on my part starting was
mistake number one. At that moment my
feelings had everything to do with you. My
heart was then blinded by, now as I see,
idiot charm. My head was going with
the flow, doing what it thought was right.

Now the way I see it that's all said and done.
So like the gate on a calm summers day,
close your mouth on us. No longer should
you feel the need for it to be open.
Stop having your friends being the fly
on the wall, bugging their eyes out
at me. Just like you they have nothing
to do with me, from now on, my life has
nothing to do with you.

Superb invective hung well on the metaphor of gated gossip....
