Observations While Walking Poem by James Gibbons

Observations While Walking

Daily walk encounters
sunlight and shadows, breeze tumbled
kaleidoscope of shifting images. Kissing branches, criss crossed painted black against the sky.

Gaggles of egrets gather, strutting show offs Like gossiping ladies, lined up in pecking order.

Crowds of fat bladed grass bending in the wind, green with envy.

Pond's wrinkled face, old and wise
reflecting skies accumulated thoughts,
ancient knowledge wasted on lazy waves.

Hibiscus, oleander shy glances flirting lovers in pink skirts.

Lazily lay, coconuts in the sun
thirty foot fall left them stunned.

Raucously screeching squirrels.
rippling rhythmic motion,
very busy this time of year,
new brood to tend, acorn's to gather
looking with intelligent ebony eyes.

Investigating high stepping boobies gather dancing mating songs, nodding and shuffling,
flapping folding wings, noisy as teenagers.
Mounded soil, squirrel's holes
half a hand full of wounded earth.

Home in sight, step sprightly.
