Ockmo Poem by John DeBona

Ockmo

I cried on the first day of school.
I felt like a fool, on the first day of school.
Dad made up words, a bit like Pig Latin.
The teacher held up a picture of a monkey.
She said, 'Can anyone tell me what this is'?
I yelled out with confidence,
Why, it's an Ockmo! An Ockmo it is!
The kids laughed until they peed their pants..
I was humiliated.
I ran out of the classroom and hid in the restroom.
The teacher came in and told me it's ok to make mistakes.
The kids used to point and laugh, there goes the little Ockmo!
The little Ockmo carrying his lunch full of bananas
