Ode To Dad,26 Years Later Poem by Leena Amwaalwa

Ode To Dad,26 Years Later

The 24th August.
The day that taught us how to spell loss.
The day that taught us to toughen up and be our own heroes from an early age.
The day that robbed us out of love and left us-me! -with nothing but a name that doesn't answer when called out to.
The day we lost dad; the man whose face I only know from a fading photo that I have somewhere.
Not to dispute God's will, but some days I just wish you were here.
Not to disagree with God's plans, but some days I just wish you'd come back so I can look at you and commit your face to memory.
Not to awaken God's wrath, but when the going gets tough, I just wish you were here to step in like the hero that you were.
Too bad I'm just human, and I can only do that much; wish.
