O Negligence, sly thief of fleeting time,
You creep unseen where care should hold its sway;
With gentle ease, you mask the mounting crime,
And lead the vigilant and wise astray.
You twist the mind with whispers soft and sweet,
"Delay, " you say, "tomorrow will suffice";
Yet in your wake lie tasks left incomplete,
And tiny faults that grow to costly price.
You dull the edge of effort, steal the spark,
And turn bright promise into quiet waste;
What might have soared falls victim to the dark,
While heedless hearts dismiss the prudent haste.
O Negligence, subtle, patient, sly,
Teach us your weight before our dreams pass by;
That we may rise with focus, firm and true,
And honor all the work we ought to do.
