Ode To Wole Soyinka - The Man I Would Never Be Poem by Mary Oladimeji

Ode To Wole Soyinka - The Man I Would Never Be

The Chieftain entered,

Surrounded by Rocky wizards

Totally bereft of genetic fear

Oh, the man I would never be

Blazed a trail that rejected moral cowardice as wisdom

Alas, the track I would never follow.

Oh, the world before my eyes

Now the shock of white hair in sterner times.

conscious still of the steely spirits surrounding

Still, in strength, force unabating

Alas, the man I would never be.

Oh, the track I would never follow.

Get along, Go along,

On this hyena track of wisdom, I wallow,

Well worn,

Still ensconced in genetic fear.
