(to be read with tongue in cheek)
Approaching Christmas
we are called to make a journey;
two hours down the motorway for us,
guided by a signal from the Heavens -
courtesy of GPS.
Older, and so wiser than we were,
we accede to the summons without question.
Leaving the M25,
we join a caravan that travels West
towards the focus of our pilgrimage.
And others, too, we know tread their own paths-
all bound to us by love, or genes or both,
all focussed on the chosen destination
in homage to the promise of new life.
Here at his lodging place, gifts in our hands-
we see at last the reason why we came -
the tiny soul that holds our rapt attention.
And with what joy we now behold the babe
this gurgling, squirming scrap of pure delight.
My youngest sister's first grandchild.
