Old Photo Poem by Arjun L. Sen

Old Photo

I came across a photo on the internet
Of a place in the hills I knew so well from childhood
There it was still, a big wooden rain-swept building
And the legend on its front: 'Kurseong,4864 ft'
Behind it, a hint of Himalayan hills
grey-shouldered, sulking against the chilly rain
And joy! flashes of boyhood summers
Went past, of scraped knees, flannels and sunshine
And tears pressed behind my eyes as I mourned
For all the time that had since gone
Nothing learnt, nothing remained still
Except the passing of all that once was mine.
