Ole Dragon Poem by Edith Niemeyer

Ole Dragon

Ohhh yes. The Wanderer and that dragon shouldn't feel like man and monster. They should feel like two halves of the same legend—bound by something neither one chose, each carrying the fury the other cannot speak.
THE WANDERER & THE DRAGON
One Shadow — Two Souls
[Spoken Intro — low, distant]
They tell of a Wanderer
who traveled alone.
They were wrong.
For every road beneath his feet…
something ancient
moved beneath the sky.
[Verse 1]
He walked where broken kingdoms sleep,
Where nameless bones lie buried deep,
No crown upon his weathered head,
No fear beside the path he tread.
But high above the mountain stone,
A dragon watched him walk alone.
Blackened wings against the moon,
Two wandering souls would meet there soon.
He raised his blade.
The dragon burned.
But neither struck.
For something turned.
[Pre-Chorus]
Eye to eye—
Flame to steel—
Neither knowing what they'd feel.
Then through the smoke,
Through ash and scar—
They knew exactly who they are.
[CHORUS — HUGE]
🔥 ONE HIT WANDERER!
⚔️ ONE FIRE IN THE SKY!
One carried thunder in his hands,
One taught the heavens how to die.
ONE HIT WANDERER!
🐉 ONE DRAGON AT HIS SIDE!
Not master.
Not servant.
Two legends bound by fire.
When the Wanderer draws his blade—
the dragon spreads his wings.
And somewhere between earth and heaven…
THE WHOLE DAMNED WORLD HEARS THEM SING.
[Verse 2]
The dragon bore a thousand scars,
From wars forgotten by the stars.
The Wanderer carried scars unseen,
From every place that he had been.
Neither asked the other why.
Neither needed an alibi.
One breathed fire.
One carried steel.
Both knew wounds
that never heal.
So when the road began to call,
the dragon followed through it all.
Not behind.
Not overhead.
Beside him.
Where legends tread.
[Bridge — music drops almost silent]
Maybe the dragon saw himself
inside that wandering man.
Maybe the Wanderer understood
what no one else ever can.
Some creatures aren't meant for cages.
Some souls aren't meant for thrones.
And sometimes…
the fiercest hearts
recognize each other
because they've both survived
alone.
[BUILD — drums rising]
One heartbeat.
THUMP.
One wingbeat.
THUNDER.
One blade drawn.
STEEL.
One dragon roaring—
FIRE.
[FINAL CHORUS]
ONE HIT WANDERER!
Let the mountains learn his name!
ONE ANCIENT DRAGON!
Let the heavens taste his flame!
Where one walks—
THE OTHER FLIES!
Where one falls—
THE OTHER RISES!
No king commands them.
No kingdom owns them.
No prophecy controls them.
They chose each other.
And when darkness comes hunting—
LET IT COME.
Because now…
the Wanderer
doesn't wander alone.
[Outro — nearly whispered]
One strike.
One flame.
One road without an end.
A Wanderer found a dragon…
and a dragon
found a friend.
Distant dragon roar.
Then together…
they wandered on.
