Olympics Poem by Arjun Sharma

Olympics

Rating: 5.0

If you study, you would succeed
If you play, you would fail
Meant an old Hindi proverb
Which now no longer entails
If Neeraj Chopra would have thought of playing cricket
He wouldn't have won an Olympic gold
And would have been at loss for wickets
If Milkha Singh would have thought of playing basketball
He wouldn't have proved to be so tall
We should let the children decide what they want to do in life
For going against them would mean a constant strife
Sports should have a prominent place in a person's life
Without them our lives would be boring and trite
We must aspire for the greatest sporting gala of the world
For the Olympics are held every four years and not just about a swirl
And an Olympic medal is a precious of the lot as has been foretold
Out of which the most precious one is the Olympic gold
It takes years of hardwork to reach that level
In the due process of which one must prove his mettle
After long labour comes an Olympic medal
Where superior athletes compete against each other
In total harmony like calm and pensive cattle
It is a sporting gala one of a kind
Where people from different countries and cultures unite and bind
In the end it is an occasion where many things can be learnt
That is to say while respecting each other how medals can be earned.
