On A Day Like Today Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

On A Day Like Today

On a day like today

On a day like today
-when sky is blur
-clouds make a forest,
-fox, jackal go to hunt;
-I take time by a wall
-to sit in squat…

See the sun come and go.
See clouds, silver, gold.
See the worm in crawl.

Feel the Earth is shaking
-when coming elephants
-followed by dinosaurs;
-sterling flaps wing on rhino.

I orate and orate and orate.

It is then that I feel my hands cuffed
-and my legs to ankles, all around
-are the guests of shackles,
-I am kept behind bars…

"See the birds in the nests."
"Look at them, are fighting! "
"No, they are love-making."

As if life is magic
-I see me in mirror
-in front wine bottle
-next to it are goblets.

I dream that it is
-Chilean, Argentine's.

In my mouth feel Khollar
-hear me whispering:
- "Can it be of Shiraz? "

I think of the poets
-wine lovers…

Best of them come to mind
-both Hafez and Khayyam.

Want to pour!
Want to shout!

See jailer standing
-staring at me, things.

Able am to uncork,
-follow wish, do the work,
-fill them all to the rim,
-raise, drink and then sing
-sweetest of songs: "Am free! "

Shout and shout fearless
-have in mind: "If jailer
-comes close, shuts me up,
-I resist, fight to end,
-and follow same trend
-with grails of my bones
-and fill them with blood
-from veins and my heart
-till I die and go white…
-Bloodless will dry.
-I devote freshness
-no drop for wetness.

Freedom is a Must.
Freedom is a Must.
Freedom is a Must.

Must fly as does wind.
Must fly as does wind.
Must fly as does wind.

Even if in jail and in secret.
Even if in dream, not real.

I must live freely
-even if dreaming, in sleep
-even if chained, binding…
