On An Ugly Fellow (From The Greek) - Poem by William Cowper

Beware, my friend! of crystal brook,
Or fountain, lest that hideous hook,
Thy nose, thou chance to see;
Narcissus' fate would then be thine,
And self-detested thou wouldst pine,
As self-enamour'd he.

    Beware, my friend! of crystal brook,
    Or fountain, lest that hideous hook,
    Thy nose, thou chance to see;
    Narcissus' fate would then be thine,
    And self - detested thou wouldst pine,
    As self - enamoured he.

    - IN ITALIAN:

    Fa' attenzione, amico mio, al ruscello cristallino,
    O alla fontana, per timore che quell'orribile gancio
    Che è il tuo naso, tu possa vederti;
    Il destino di Narciso sarebbe allora il tuo,
    E cadresti nel tormento per auto-detestarti,
    Così come lui si innamorò di se stesso.
