On April 26 Poem by Felix Emeka George

On April 26

On this day I pass out
I stand overwhelmed
I remember
Tears flowing from my eyes.
First; where I camest,
And never did I imagine
Amidst children of men and women
Who own the essence of this country
I will stand ready to pass out.

Being alone with my thoughts
I remembered,
My mother and father
Who will not ever read my stories

I scanned the crowd
Watched all men and women
In purvey
I heard the sound of joy and laughter from them
I saw mothers and fathers with their siblings
Waiting idly on the parade lanes
Smiling down at my colleagues
And nobody thought of me, my pains
Something not the best time to be.

The third is my future
Shortly after I leave this ground
I will report to my new unknown station
A soldiers of the world
Marching all the way to battlefields
We go protecting the country
And leave beloved ones at home.

Finally when performing our deadly play
No one knows,
when the drums end
No one can tell how the music seize
And the dance ends
To a world of uncertainty.

Uncertainty
I can't stand the emotion
I could not help myself
The feelings flow through
Like rivers of tears
Rushing to the banks of my mouth
And spilling onto the sacred ground
Sacred ground of sand and blood
Am leading men and women of one will
Unto protecting and preserving
The value and valued
As a country man
I am honoured.
