On Cobbled Street Poem by Midifo Yearns

On Cobbled Street

On cobbled street we sat alone
among the crowd that wondered by
The lively eyes could not conceal
a sadness and an anguished cry
a seeking heart, a tearful glance

a smile that could not but reveal
that even though the people throng
and we together do belong
there still exists a loneliness
that no one sound would ever miss

And all the while the music played
and sorrow pierced my heart and stayed
It lingers still and yet I know
that only love the way will show
And God is love and we believe
that in his heart there is reprieve.

And so I stretch my hand to you
and in my heart I now embrace
the beauty and the sadness
of your strong yet fearful face
And in my depths, I do accept
that all be well and day by day will open up
to freedom all the longing in your heart
and give you power to take the cup
and once again embrace the start.
