On Narcissism Poem by Kyle Costa

On Narcissism

A mystery, not unlike how you
bought and sold me for profit
behind my back
while posing as a miracle reflected off
stained glass or stainless steel.
Everyone claps and collects
Avoiding all appointment of heirs
Aside from you appearing always to remain
injured—
like
an
animal.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired by the two women I hold closest and the monsters that broke their hearts.
