On The Balcony! Poem by Ali Rahimi

On The Balcony!

On the balcony!
From the balcony he watched,
The flow of people,
Where do they go?
What do they do?
Why do they keep flowing?
He watched the thickness and movement of people,
Their tumult, commotion, confusion,
Like smoke curling from the end of his cigarette into the air,
What do they want to do?
His smoke just disappears,
If he inhales more, will more people flow? Or more people die?
How long this continues? This to and fro,
This frenzy, ado, this storm made of human flesh?
How is it possible?
Tendrils of smoke retire,
Like a tired salamander,
Will volumes of people diminish?
People disperse and vanish,
Like schools of fish,
Or bunch of starving dogs,
Running for food,
And cigarette finishes,
He observes the vibe and hardships of people,
All went away, to some other place,
To pollute it, or just harmonize and gather?
They are now together,
In the face of frightening self, egos and alter egos, difference, and the alien inside.
On the balcony!
