On The Doorstep Poem by Richard Trembath

On The Doorstep

You live your life in idle hope,
Without commitment,
Waiting always, anticipating that one day
The Universe will smile on you and send
Your long-awaited miracle
And make your life complete.

Patiently, you tread life's road, oblivious
But ever looking for a sign,
Unknowing that your gift
Has been there all the time
And that you've been stepping over it -
On the doorstep.
