Once In A While Poem by Kelly Curiel

Once In A While

Once in a while
you come to my mind
I think about the times we've had-
dream about times that never were.

Once in a while
I see your face before my eyes
though I know you cannot be
I see you in the faces of others
some have your eyes like the sand of the sea
your shimmering hair like a fountain of gold
your teeth white and smooth like seashells.

Once in a while
I'll hear your laugh
my memory keeping it alive
to hear its redolence
like the tinkling of chimes.

Once in a while
I'll feel your innocent touch
a single brush against my hand
or a poke on the back
or a jubilant embrace.

Once in a while
a scent will remind me of you
the thickness of citrus cologne
the peaceful aroma of a day on the beach.

Once in a while
I'll dream of you so vividly
every memory of you
untouched by time

Once in a while
my longing consumes me
wishing you never left.
