Once Upon A Creek Poem by Elvis Towolawi

Once Upon A Creek

Once upon a creek
Whilst cold crabs bade graying day well
I saw a woman spry like a dolphin
And bold as a crocodile
Paddling her midgeted skiff solitary
Borne along by returning tides
Strapped on the breast with a suckling

Tossed hither by ravaging ripples she paddled firm
A lone kernel never chars in the hearth

Left light years behind by steam boats she paddled patiently
A snail's pace is never a tag of sloth

Then as darkness gripped the land she paddled ashore to a spongy husband-lord
