Once Upon A Time Poem by David Whalen

Once Upon A Time

Weren't we all fifteen
Once upon a time…
And the world
Revolved around us and only us?
Parents were no more
Than convenient caretakers
Who had no idea
Of what was involved
In the singularity of being young…
Weren't we the only ones…
Once upon a time
Who truly knew pain and sorrow
Ecstacy and passion
And the crushing feel of a broken heart?
Weren't we allbeautiful one day
Then hideous the next?
Top of the heap
Or bottom of the pit
Deeply depressed
Or supremely sublime?
Of course we were! !
After all...weren't we all fifteen…
…Once upon a time? ...
