Once Upon A Time Poem by Eric Paeplow

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, in the land of make believe
We were all happy people, all living in peace
No one ever suffered, no one was ever poor
There were no rich people left, no sir, not anymore
We all had our jobs and we didn't pay rent
We all had free healthcare
Without a single ruble being spent
No one was ever hungry and no one was denied
The wealth of another, since the rich had all died
Everything was rosey, everything was grand
Our world was at peace and we all shared the land
And since we're all the same, we're all treated that way
We do as we're told and live where they say
We have no need for that car, nor to take holiday
Because if we complain, they'll put us away
We'll line up for milk, we'll line up for bread
We'll do what they tell us, or find ourselves dead
They'll create websites for us, so we can all tell
What our friends have been saying, so that they might quell
Any thoughts of subversion, or words of distrust
Or thoughts of revolution, that might be discussed
Because they can't have free thinkers; they can't allow that
They can't allow people, to leave where they're at
They need the proletariat, who they can dictate
To make enough money, for them to placate
The lazy and ignorant and those they despise
Or those who would do for themselves and leave them behind
They can't let us free, nope, they can't allow that
They'll shoot us where we stand, right here where we're at
Cause once upon a time, in the land of make believe
A great workers paradise, is what they thought they'd achieved
