One Cold Day Poem by Tessa Eichhorst

One Cold Day

Rating: 5.0

She hasn't seen him for
days, weeks, even months.
The day she went to see him
will be one she will never
forget. As she stands by his
side all she can do is cry.

The wind rustles through
her hair, as the man who
accompanied her just glances
and stares. She needs her time
alone to sit and think about
the days of past she and her
grandpa had.

As she drops to her knees,
face in hands, the words
'I will always love you',
slip through the cracks.

The world stood still, every
single clock had stopped,
all she could hear was the
wind, all she longed for was
his voice, his touch, his
smile, and most of all his
love.

Pretty soon she'd have to go;
when she'll see him again, the
Lord only knows. So she lays
by his side, wishing to hold
his hand. As her hand slips
down, she only feels the grass.
For only his spirit is beside
her, his body below where she
lay, and as she leaves, a kiss,
she places on the headstone
above his grave.

Not a rose does she leave,
but fishing jigs to show
his passion and love. Soon
she will walk away with warm
tears streaming down her face.
When she'll return she doesn't
know, but as her body turns
the wind again starts to blow.
She knows he loves her he
knows she, and he lets her know
his spirit lives immensely.

After this day she will never
be the same, for one of her
great loves has gone to heaven
to stay.
