One Day Poem by Ibn Ali

One Day

One day,
God willing,
Some day far from now, and distant,
When I'm old and grey,
And time is less forgiving,
In-between regretting and repenting,
I'll combine both in your remembrance,
When furrowed pertruding brows cast shadows on weary eyes,
Under the noon day sun,
I'll think of you,
And a youthful haze would reinvigorate these matte eyes,
And a smile, deepens the creases, that attest to all the playful thoughts that came before this one,
And a sigh to release me from this trance that I keep falling into,
And I write,
So years from now,
Some lovesick fool would happen on discarded paper,
And in reading, with pity and with envy, he'd know,
That Muhammad loved Ameena,

Some day,
God willing,
One day far from now,
In one instance,
I'll dream of you,
(What we could have been)
Something bittersweet and melancholy,
Of times passed,
My lips pressed firmly on yours,
This heart so enraptured,
Despite my strength,
I am before you weakened,
My Delilah, you're my test,
Enough to scare you if you knew how much,
So I keep writing,
When thoughts of you deny me rest,
Make me blink that much longer in the day,
In attempts to paint a picture perfect,
Then in my chest I feel the swelling of the tide,
Once calm waters,
Stirred by a lustful breeze,
Now it's wave on top of wave,
A gust atop a breeze,
Roaring, it rises to a peak,
Collapsing under its own weight,
Only to rise again,
Waves on top of waves.
