One Day Poem by Emily Vanderkooi

One Day

I once read a poem called 6 feet under,
It reminded me of my grandmother.
What a nice girl she was so strong and sweet,
She used to make us pickles ain't that neat.
She'd voyage the world, send photos of her travels.
I used to collect them, stuff them in a little album and let her wonderful life unravel.
She told me forgive not forget you don't know anyone's story,
I'd collected her notes too, found music and glory.
She gave me a stuffed elephant with his trunk held up high, and told me it was good luck and hard to find.
My oh my what a sight she was to the eye.
She stood with beauty, and told me it was her wish for I,
To live my dreams and get my education,
to do what I'm passionate about she was my motivation.
She told me she'd always be with me, so proud and always near,
I hope you are enjoying heaven, my dear.
My time is not near, so I cannot go,
One day, I will see you again,
I know.
