One Degree Off Axis Poem by empty shell

One Degree Off Axis

Dredge through work, nothing new
Toiling for my supper
Walk room to room and back again
Feel slightly out of place

Shuffling feet, almost done
Sand dallies in the glass
With smiling face and hidden hands
Time plays me for a fool

Quitting time, I must go
Is there something missing?
Keys, wallet, coat, check, coatcheck
I give up and I'm gone

Halfway home, car sounds wrong
A flat, maybe a wire
Imagination, maybe mine
Or something's just not right

The sun shines, a bird chirps
Radio plays our song
Then suddenly it dawns on me
Askew my world has gone

The world is off its axis
By one or two degrees
I have lost my center
Wish you were here with me
