One Great Fall Poem by Mark Walter

One Great Fall

For the life of me, the first time I can't recall.
Seasons change so quickly, I think it was fall.
The first time I took notice in a far away city.
How do you begin to spell the word 'pretty'?
A six letter word that I spell with seven.
I swear this gift came straight from heaven.
In and out so many times.
Each time better than the last, my heart it climbs.
Never in the same place to begin something new.
But I was sure I had to see this one through.
I jumped at the chance when it came.
I guess you could say, I'm the one to blame.
Never knowing exactly what was there.
I didn't worry. Just continued to care.
Then it came. A huge surprise.
The fear was shown in my eyes.
My heart it stopped and then I knew.
Once again, I'd have to see this one through.
Things were great and time stood still.
Who would've thought, It'd go downhill?
A gain, a loss, the bottom was clear.
It happened so quickly. No time for fear.
No smarter, no wiser, no reason in sight.
Asking for a sign, to see the light.
Not knowing if things will ever be fine.
My heart it glows, like a shrine.
Maybe some day we all will see.
What's good for you and good for me.
Life must go on. We mustn't stall.
For I fell so quickly. One great fall.
