One Night Lover Poem by Babajide Aina

One Night Lover

One night lover, how quickly is over?
You talk me into paradise
You dressed me like life time queen
You push me into hope of a wife
And l settled for the responsibility of mother-wood
I praised the day l met you and cause those in my past
I challenged it, if it is a dream but l saw your presence
I settled to hand over, what l have kept from adolescence, the beautiful of womanhood
The gain of dowry payer
I know, am not young to hand over, but not to a smooth talker, a stranger, and one who need just a night.
Nights l need not just a night
Lifelong lover l need, not just a day lover
Whose leisure is just his pleasure
Indeed, l nearly off my pant
Only the words in the past, the words of my parents
That save my pant from this stranger
Indeed, l nearly say l do, to empty promises
My collateral, my heart is stolen already,
Only my pant l do not release, am wounded
Now, l know why many queens are in the hand of one-night lovers
Indeed, they have it all, even the word of God in their mouth.
Generosity and charming are their names
Have l learned my lesson, only time would tell.
Dedicated to her.
