One Year Poem by Sandra Black

One Year

A whole year of my life
I gave to you
I listened to you night and day
I heard all your jokes and anecdotes
I wrote you pomes
I loved being with you

But alas a call comes
From across the seas
And then he is not mine to be
He is not my very own
Whose flesh was once
Enmeshed in my own

I thought our minds
Were almost one
Then again you made sure
Comes in another one
She is a sad story I agree
But I'm not competing for that degree

Someday I will make it on my own
Someday for every sin atone
These are but a few crying days
When with you I mend my ways
Then that's last of me you'll see
I won't stay for eternity
