Only An Illusion Poem by Lindsey Merritt

Only An Illusion

Life is never as it seems.
We achive this reality only in dreams.
A heart will only beat as many times as is destined.
As is human's curiosity, this fact is often questioned.
You never know how many breaths are left for you.
Tidings of reassurement are offered, despite what you know is true.
And even when you're certain that the end is nigh
Loved ones will say 'it's okay' and try not to cry.
Your once steady heartbeat isn't so steady.
You let go of doubt and decide that you're ready.
Whatever lies beyond, you'll face headstrong.
Close your eyes, clinch your teeth, and be ready to be wrong.
Emptiness consumes you as you come to a conclusion.
'Life is never as it seems. It's only an illusion.'
