Only If You Wish Poem by BASAB CHAUDHURI

Only If You Wish

Often I leave my house and go elsewhere,
for work or for some job poorly defined.
I go -
there is no one to accomany me except the sky,
the immense blue that hangs over my head,
even when it is covered with cloud, I know it's there,
from deep blue to bluish to colours beyond description,
over my head just like a guardian.
The eyes of the sky follow me just like a family,
in all my distress, the enormous sky is my shelter.

And when I will be no more, where will I be?
Up above in the sky, beyond the milkyway,
just travel a few million lightyears and there,
you will find me -
in one of the oldest houses in the universe,
made of eternal stones,
I will live there.

Lest you forget,
I give you my address -
in advance or in anticipation,
beyond me,
beyond my knowledge.

Do visit me at my house then, only if you wish.
