Only Me Poem by Pravin Nair

Only Me

The world loves your shadow but I love your substance
When the day is long gone and night has crawled in to those weary eyes
As the world looks at you spelling in all your glory
I spend my night looking for dreams to place on your eyelids and songs for your lips
While the world longs to kiss your lips, isn't it I who lends my blood to keep them moist
When your laughter falls on the floor and rushes to every corner, like pearls
Isn't it I who stays back to gather the echoes
While you walk away with the world, taken by their flattery
Isn't it I who embraces the dust from your footsteps
Isn't it I who waits for you to return…knowing that you will never turn back.
