Orange And Black Blur Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

Orange And Black Blur

Was it a whimper, a scolding or a mourn?
There was a movement in the bushes
I saw fierce eyes, as it crawled, snarled.
I backed away, pulling my bag close
as if it were protection from the beast before me.
But I heard a melodic heartbeat
it synchronized with mine and in just a second,
my fears were washed away from me.
It was an impulse, as I reached out a hand
the beast’s black stripes on his orange body
roared and ran into the dark night.

I stood dejected, with a sense of restlessness
no, I wasn’t frightened or a bit scared.
It was something different. Strangely beautiful.

Suddenly dark clouds caved in and rain poured,
no tree sheltered me enough, I shivered in the cold.
It was all too fast; I realized I was on the ground
I could barely see and I whimpered to myself.

But a sudden warmth enveloped me in the darkness.
I held it close, no matter what it was
as I was slowly fading away, slowly gone.
All I remembered were fierce but kind eyes.
All I remembered was the orange and black blur.
