Orkney Poem by Laurence Overmire

Orkney

The islands of Orkney
Will take you way, way, way
Back in time

Mesolithic
Neolithic
Pict and
Viking
Settlements

Skara Brae is older
Than Stonehenge or
The Great Pyramids
So well preserved
It's called the
'Scottish Pompeii'

70 islands make up
The Archipelago
The largest is called
The Mainland

(You wonder who came up with that
brilliant name)

The locals are known as
Orcadians
And have their own particular
Dialect

Visit the Ring of Brodgar
On the Mainland
The Knap of Howar
On Papa Westray
Or the Midhowe Broch on the
West coast of Rousay

Nothing is of the ordinary
Magic abounds
White sandy shores
And clear blue water
Wildlife
Museums, arts and crafts
Watersports
Hiking and biking

The adventure awaits...
