Our Closest Cousins Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Our Closest Cousins

From tiny start, a baby's sigh,
Held close to mom, beneath the sky.
No legs to walk, no voice to call,
Just needs and love, to stand up tall.

Then years of play, a curious gaze,
Learning the world in sunlit haze.
They chase and tumble, learn and grow,
A little mind begins to know.

A teen-age storm, a restless soul,
Pushing the edges, taking control.
Moods may swing, a test of might,
Finding their place in day and night.

Then grown and strong, with friends they keep,
Secrets and plans, buried deep.
They build and fight, they laugh and cry,
Watching their loved ones, passing by.

And when the years have silvered hair,
And bodies slow, beyond compare.
The lines appear, the joints may ache,
A life well-lived, for goodness sake.

They age and fade, as all things must,
Returning gently, back to dust.
A journey shared, a mirrored way,
From birth to end, come what may.
