Our Friend Jimmy Poem by C. Dawn Campbell

Our Friend Jimmy

Rating: 5.0

We have a friend named Jimmy … whom we're proud of as we can be.
You're going to want to hear his story, as it involves "hard drugs" such as PCP.

Jimmy's opened up with us and shared parts of his soul.
Jimmy's not the same as he once was, as the Lord has made him whole.

We're fascinated with our friend and just love to hear him talk.
After listening to "his story" we're amazed that he can walk!

He has an amazing "story" … and I know that you'll agree.
And if you've never witnessed the Lord … through Jimmy you will see.

Jimmy's life has been quite tuff, but he's lived to tell it all.
And I know that it is this fact that the Lord has blocked his fall.

But Jimmy stumbled tremendously … as his life was out of whack.
The drugs are what did this to him … which is obviously a fact.

Before we tell more of our friend, let's talk about these drugs.
I think that those that use them are missing needed hugs.

They're often not the ones to blame … as their illness runs quite deep. They have emotional wounds to heal and take the drugs so not to weep.

There's so many in this group … as we've learned so from the books.
It's not too easy to just stop doing drugs … So don't give them those "looks"!

The condescending looks I mean, because they are just disgusting!
What these people really need is to learn to be more trusting.

So many people cause their pain and then punish them for hurting.
Please listen carefully and pay close attention to the wording.

Drugs aren't just LSD, PCP, heroin and coke.
They're also found in cigarettes, though they're still legal for us to smoke.

And if Marijuana is so bad, then why is it used for treatment?
Marijuana is an herb from God, and the Bible says to "Eat it! "

Moving on to our friend. I'm ready to share his story.
I must first caution you that it's one that is gory.

When Jimmy was a young boy, he hung out with the biker gangs.
As an adult he jammed with his pals, playing the guitar as he sang.

Jimmy was quite blessed with the musical talent the Lord gave him.
I guess Jimmy couldn't grasp this fact … as his world became quite grim.

He gradually got into drugs … as his peers expected him to do so.
I should first tell you that this tragedy occurred in the city of San Diego.

In San Diego drug use was rampant and Jimmy caved into the pressure.
He also had a girlfriend who made him often guess her.

Jimmy had a lot of friends … who covered for each other.
He also has a wonderful mom who blessed him with some brothers.

One night Jimmy was upstairs and he got off in his drugs.
He was battling with his own mind … which was hard to shrug!

The voices he heard made no sense and just drove him to get wild.
I'll bet it hurt him badly when he lost his baby child.

Hurt is what pushes "selves" to numb their very pain.
Whether drugs are prescribed by docs or found on streets, they can affect you the same.

Jimmy was simply out of his mind when he did all of this harm.
Had Jimmy not lost his mind he might now have two arms.

He grabbed a sword from his closet and sliced his wrist in half.
This is a serious story … for which no one should laugh.

He doesn't remember all the steps that took place on that night.
But there must've been some angels that helped our dear friend fight.

His right arm isn't the only thing he lost … This story is not through. Jimmy lost his right eyeball as well. I promise you it's true.

But Jimmy doesn't remember because he wasn't in control.
He is so very lucky that his mind continued to grow.

He walked right down the stairs as the blood was squirting out.
The house was filled with people who could only stand and shout.

The blood squirted everywhere, even behind the glass of frames.
I don't know who all was there, because I've never heard their names.

He was taken to the hospital where they tried to fix his arm.
The procedure didn't take and only caused more harm.

No one thought he'd make it, as his temp reached a hundred and twelve. Our friend Jimmy is just amazing, as you can see so for yourself.

They packed him in ice, which he melted rather quickly.
He's come a long way for one that was so sickly.

All the machines were sounding and they thought he had died.
I can picture his dear, sweet mother, as she silently cried?

Jimmy certainly made it and we think we know why.
He has so much to tell you about these drugs that make you high.

There's always repercussions for each act that we do.
You should make sure what you're doing will be good for you.

"There's not a day that goes by that I don't regret what I've done, " is what Jimmy said one night. We're so proud of our friend Jimmy for having the strength to fight!

Drugs have the ability to destroy you, no matter what they are.
Mental well-being is the answer, because it will get one far.

So many of the problems are borne into us in youth.
And we have no idea what caused it because we cannot see the truth!

It is so very important to find the very cause.
And once we have healed from pain, life may then un-pause.

Our friend Jimmy, we love him dearly and we're glad that he is here.
We hope one learns from his story, with life being quite clear.
