Our Goodbyes Are Not Goodbyes Poem by Tandy Vaughn

Our Goodbyes Are Not Goodbyes

They call this the twilight of our lives
And we will soon be saying our goodbyes
Perhaps well meaning, tis misleading, if not outright lies
Our goodbyes are not goodbyes

- They don't know God placed your picture in my mind
- Long before I first saw you or met you in time
- It was God's will, you I should one day find
- By His Providence, you were always-forever mine

How deeply I love you, in all sincerity
A love only exceeded, by Christ' love on Calvary
That's not unseemly, it's not blaspheming, it is a plea
That Christ would help me, love you, as He has loved me

- God's Word says my love should mirror Christ's sacrifice
- As He loved the Church, I should love my wife
- He poured out his blood and paid Ransom's price
- My love is not His equal, but by grace, it will suffice

Not in sadness, or loneliness, Christ may let me wait
Not fretting, or regretting, near the Garden gait
I will be breathless, at your brightness, on that date
At his welcome, to watch you gasp and fall prostrate

- I know in Heaven, there is one groom and one bride
- I will know you, by his goodness, perhaps be your guide
- Show you the many glories and share with you wide-eyed
- All Christ has prepared, for His Word can't be denied

So, Our goodbyes, are not goodbyes

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was once young and now I am old. Sooner over later I will pass over and before I do I wanted to remind my wife, my love, that a believer's goodbye is not goodbye.
