Our Love, Defined Poem by Winston Edgar Hall

Our Love, Defined

Though you as any other would have doubts,
There is a beautiful trust amid warranted
Uncertainty that commands my entire being
Into a state of Love without second guessing,
Without submitting to the obvious what-ifs
Once can ponder, rather, your enhancement
Of my life has shown me not to question the
Moments we share together harmoniously.

To each other we are devoted in being fair
By putting forth significant effort that we do
Not say one thing and mean otherwise; an
Attribute of our relationship which has the
Potential to endure for years, whereby such
An attribute slowly but surely incubates into
A shared impenetrable stronghold, an area
That we may rest our hearts with collection.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Our Love, Defined was written in the winter of 2012 as a Holiday gift to my girlfriend at the time. I wanted to write a poem that embodies our relationship and the way in which we were very careful to convey our feelings in an articulate, concise manner so as not to allow any potential anger turn into hurtful words. The particular relationship referenced here was caught in the midst of a huge transitional period for both parties. There exists for a person in their youth a period of time wherein they must question their beliefs and mental constructs that have been developed thus far, and decide whether they will follow the same path or continue on with a new one, thereby destroying the constructs already built. So many different types of connections develop through romance that contains fire, passion, reason, Truth, and so much more. Our Love, Defined demonstrates a romance built in respect for one another, reasonable conversation and a drive to create a peaceful ground for us both to rest. Some romances are not reasonable in that they tend to be fiery and passionate from the start, two people become so intertwined and in love, they can forget their boundaries and beliefs. I have been blessed with experiencing both aspects.
