Ours Poem by Arno Le Roux

Ours

Society summons us from peaceful sleep

Needs our bodies raking money on their heap

Us giving up closeness as over debt we leap

To oil more the great give-and-take machine

Make haste as further over cliffs we lean

And all along we miss warm arms open dream

Loose kisses as with corporates we side

Money pulls a lover's gap too wide

Too tiresome away from success to stride

Function ignored we were put here to perform

And one morning our losses become the norm

When around we look at those newly born

Later they will be told too to live fast

With hurried gulps as if no sun to bask

Wrinkled look we back at love that last

Faces decorated with wrinkles of success

We feel too late our lovers times of bless

Stare back at the clock with hours less

Back in our castles made up empty beds

And warm meals alone follows by our meds

Wonder left the day career turned time to shreds

What we do today to help ourselves in time

Is sure to cost us much of collected dime

Ours is today with our lovers laugh and wine
