Outside Poem by Nick Downer

Outside

If you could feel how I feel deep inside
You could feel the crash when pain and insanity collide,
And you could feel the beating of my fragile heart
And see the scars that have formed where I've been ripped apart.

But outside it can hide in my smile
Though sometimes it slips every once in awhile.
Outside it can hide in my eyes
It lives in your innocence; makes a beautiful disguise
Yea and outside you can't see inside of myself
So I can place it aside like a book on a shelf.

If you could feel how I live down within
You could feel how it burns like unbearable sin
How I'm worn out and torn out, how it's all being held down
Well I hope you can swim or you'll most certainly drown.

But outside it can hide in my smile
Though sometimes it slips every once in awhile
Outside it can hide in my eyes
It lives in your denial and feeds off my lies
Yea outside you can't see inside of myself
So I can place it aside like a book on a shelf.

And someday, whether soon or far away
I know I'll find somebody who sees right into me
But it's ok, I'll just say
I am everything that you see
The darkness, the light, the internal fight...

But outside it will hide in my smile
Though sometimes it slips every once in awhile
Outside it will hide in my eyes
And feed of your innocence and be my disguise
Yea and outside i have put up the walls
And just hope I'll be caught when it falls.
