Padded Dreams Poem by Alfred Ramos

Padded Dreams

Her smile was different, like it was broken
A fragility of which was never spoken

Was it a sense of retaliation
Of which there was no mention

Her eyes were saddened, so distant
In a dark place we seldom frequent

She was a shadow searching in the night
Seemingly lost to dreams in flight

Her mood suspended in midair
Caught in the cobwebs of despair

Loneliness flushed through her rattled brain
Padded walls, disinfected halls, her tragic domain

The rain poured down her somber face
Drowning in thought of escaping this place

It was all a mistake gone awry
And pills didn’t have the answers why

Why did he leave and take the boy
Erasing the only thoughts that brought her joy

She was seeking serenity we all deserve
When life threw her a curve

A moment of enlightenment sought by all
The calming of her nerves was her fall

First one, then two didn’t do the trick
Now she has a habit she can’t kick

So now her new home is safe and sound
As she puts a square peg in a hole that’s round
